Nursery |
A child is
normally admitted to the Nursery in the Autumn Term of the
school year in which the child reaches four years of age. The
Nursery offers part time placement, either morning or afternoon,
for up to 30 pupils maximum in each of the four classes.
All parents are invited to school to meet the teachers, nursery
nurses and other staff in the Summer Term before the children
start school. Information and school procedures are explained,
and any questions answered. The Nursery staff also undertake to
visit all children and parents in the home situation during the
September before entry. Children then begin Nursery, a few at a
time, during September and October, in order to ease any
difficulties, and enable the staff to get to know each child.
The Nursery staff aim to make your child’s first year at school
as rewarding and enjoyable as possible, and to prepare them for
transition to the main school.

main school |
Your child will
enter the main school in the school year in which he/she reaches
their fifth birthday. In the weeks before the Reception year
begins, all parents are invited to school to meet teachers,
nursery nurses and other staff, and many aspects of school life
and curriculum are explained.
Admission during the Autumn Term is staggered over a few weeks,
to enable the children to settle in. Most children will be full
time by the second half of the Autumn Term. They will remain in
the school for a seven year course of study, until they transfer
to the secondary sector, in Enfield, at the age of eleven.
Children in Nursery and Reception classes start at the
Foundation Stage of Learning, moving onto two of the Key Stages
of the National Curriculum. Key Stage 1 for pupils aged 5 – 7
years, Key Stage 2 for pupils aged 8 – 11 years.
The year groups are divided into four parallel classes. All
classes from Reception to Year 6 have a limit of 30 pupils per
class.. The classes are of mixed gender, mixed ability and
grouped according to age. The planned admission number (at
Reception) is currently 120 pupils.
In the event of a nursery class or year group being
oversubscribed, admission is decided according to the following
criteria:
Children with Special Educational Needs whose statement
indicates that placement at a particular primary school is
appropriate
Children for whom a particular school is appropriate on genuine
medical grounds
Children for whom a particular school is appropriate on genuine
grounds of social need
Children
with a brother or sister already attending the school
Children genuinely resident within the school’s designated
priority zone
Children
living nearest the school, as the crow flies.
Further
information on Admissions to Primary Schools maybe found in the
booklet ‘Primary Education in Enfield’. Information for Parents
available from the Directorate of Education, Civic Centre,
Silver Street, Enfield, EN1 3XQ.
